ASR - Concrete Cancer - Austin, TX

Thank you. We used gunite and not shotcrete as the poster above stated it’s much less likely to get ASR…also had my engineers review the whole process.

ASR - Concrete Cancer - Austin, TX

Just finished my rebuild after discovering ASR three years ago. Was a complete nightmare the whole time. Now, happy with the new build and was able to make a couple adjustments I should have done on first pool. So nice to have my backyard back. Hopefully those of you with this issue get it...

    ASR Issue - Austin, TX

Hi, I discovered my issue with ASR three years ago. Apparently I was one of the first discovered In Austin. Ironically enough, my new pool is filling up as I type this. A three-year nightmare coming to an end…and a good one thankfully. Feel free to DM me for contact info. Happy to share my...

    Umbrella sleeve size

Thanks for the comments and image. I haven’t really tested an umbrella in one. I guess 6” would be sturdy enough for a day or weekend. I didn’t know if there were “tough” ledge umbrellas that required more depth.

    Umbrella sleeve size

Final detail. :) One builder told me he uses a 7.5” sleeve….current builder said they always use 6”. Both don’t care which I choose, I just want to make sure I can put any umbrella the Mrs finds into it. Do all umbrellas fit into the 7.5? Curious if anyone has an opinion on this. Thanks!

Trying to find a smooth plaster finish.

We used Wet Edge on our first pool and really liked it. It was as smooth as a basketball court and no slipping. However, currently in central Texas there are limited applicators for this and they are not very responsive. How smooth is quartzscapes? I’ve also heard Pebble Tech has a smooth...

ASR - Concrete Cancer - Austin, TX

I was lucky and got advice for my local lawyer from a partner who specializes in insurance law and told my lawyer a couple things to do…unfortunately he would never take a “small” case like these…but what he did it helped get us in mediation in weeks not months. I’ve heard there 60+ cases and it...

ASR - Concrete Cancer - Austin, TX

It was shotcrete and it looked the same. Plaster spider cracks when it fails…it doesn’t do this from my two years of ASR school that I didn’t voluntarily attend. Posting pics causes more PTSD.

Not me. That’s was my biggest worry. You can see by pics, this wasn’t a “small” problem. The pool was/is attached to my home foundation. Unfortunately it took good attorneys and mediation. No fun. No bueno.

The engineer hired by my pool builder’s insurance company did core samples. Zoom into image and look at seating ledge by patio, that’s where I saw first crack. You can also see one on tanning ledge. They started popping up all over after this.

I’m rebuilding my pool because of this. Absolute craziness for two plus years. ASR confirmed In shotcrete. They didn’t use fly ash. Was highly preventable. Insurance/lawyers/new builders…pool had to be ripped out and replaced. New gunite (not shotcrete) was finally poured last week.
