Like I mentioned earlier, 1 gallon would only increase your pool's CYA by 19 ppm. The lowest CYA you can really measure is 30 ppm. The 4 pounds of dry CYA you now have should raise it an additional 25 ppm.

Are you using Pool Math to calculate chemical additions? 1 gallon of liquid stabilizer will only raise 19,000 gallons by 19.

If your CYA isn’t really as low as 70 then what is it? If it’s 80 your 3.5 FC is already below minimum. Also being in FL you are begging for a swamp. Hopefully it hasn’t already started.

Both tests have +\- 1 drop accuracy so there is some overlap. 5.5 could have been from 5 to 6 and 6.2 could have been 6 to 6.4.

Was any additional FC added overnight? If not, .2 FC loss overnight is well within the 1 ppm loss that would indicate an algae problem. If you SWCG was on you should probably turn it up. It is not uncommon for a plaster pool to want to hover in the high 7’s. It rises more quickly when the pH...

So far the Apera PH60 seems quite nice. I've been comparing results to the phenol red test with the assistance of my wifey's eyes. :) Good correlation so far. It comes with 4, 7 and 10 pH buffer solution for a 3 point cal. I've also ordered some 8.2 buffer solution for verifying it around...

Was your motivation for this for looks/feel, trying to slow pH rise or both?
