What would you do? Hardwood vs Composite

Take a look at a wood called Ipe. Beautiful decking but expensive. I believe it has a 50-100 year lifespan.

Hello! House we bought came with a pool.

Welcome to the forum. You have a Jandy salt water chlorine generator. It looks like a model 1400. You also have automation. Did the home owners leave you with the remote control for the system? You need to get a test kit ASAP as others have recommended. You can then run your own tests and be...

SampleSizer - Why did I wait so long to get it?

I have been singing the praises of the sample sizer for a while now. Who cares about spill over, I’m always filling over my sink anyway. The sample sizer and speed stir are Indispensable as far as I’m concerned.

Official 2021 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Last week I made pizza on the grill. First up was artichoke, sun-dried tomato, and basil. Second was pepperoni, sausage, and black olive. I love my year old Fuego grill. I bought it for cooking pizza but it is great for steaks as well. Dough was made with Anna Tipo 00 flour, sugar, salt, yeast...

    Fiberglass vs. Gunite

I would think the labs will scratch the gel coat on fiberglass. Others may weigh in based on real experience.

    Chlorine sanitation

The only corrosion you’re going to need to worry about is steel furniture and umbrella holders that are near your pool. We had to replace all of our furniture with aluminum furniture. All of my steel powder coated furniture rusted. I have had four umbrella stands break off at the base. I really...

New cleaner recommendation - special requirements - giant leaves

This may not be much help but I would turn the trees into firewood. We had several Bradford Pears but a couple were downed by a tornado early last year. I bit the bullet and took them all out. I have never seen leaves that big but I think any cleaner would have problems with leaves that size. A...

    Chlorine sanitation

A Salt Water Chlorine Generator is a chlorine pool. The difference is the chlorine is made on site using the SWG. No more hauling chlorine and dosing your pool. It is much simpler and easier on your back. It also saves time. Higher up front cost but less work. Having owned both I would never go...

How long does the TF-100 last?

Get the sample sizer and the speedstir. They make testing a breeze.

About to Break Ground. Conflicted. 😬

If I am looking at this correctly I would consider relocating the pool lights to the wall closest to your house. If the lights are shining towards the back of your home all you’re going to see is the glare from the lights.

Making life simpler - a superfast way to always get exact 25 & 44 ml water samples?

Tim5055 hit the nail on the head. The sample sizer and speedstir. I got sooooo tired of bending over to check the level on the test vial to see the level. Now it is simple, quick, and easy.

    How interchangeable are pool lights?

I have 2 Jandy LED watercolor lights that run at least 1.5 hours every night. I have never had a single issue with them in nine years.

    Induction Cooktop?

We currently have gas. When we had to order a new range I looked at induction due to the precise control over heat. I had to go back to gas after 2 local electricians quoted over $700 for the dedicated 50 amp, 240 volt circuit that was needed for the induction. I bought a GE 5 burner gas range...

    Am I getting hosed?

You are off to a good start! Members will weigh in and help get everything balanced. Your calcium and CYA are way to high which will require some draining to fix. You will need to check your water table to make sure the pool does not pop out of the ground when you do drain. If you have scaling...

    Cleaning Jandy Aquapure 1400 advice

Google “video on how to inspect SWCG”. You are going to have a LOT of water gushing out unless you drain first. I watched a couple of videos and it made it very easy.

    Cleaning Jandy Aquapure 1400 advice

Do not clean it unless you see calcium deposits on the blades in the unit. You will just shorten the life of it. What does it look like inside?

    Third time replacing Aquarite thermistor!

Are you buying an OEM thermistor or an aftermarket thermistor? The reason I ask is my wife bought one when my first unit went out and she got it from Amazon. It lasted a little over a year. I replaced it with an OEM thermistor and has been going strong for over three years now. I also found that...

    Thinking about going to SWG

Brett has good advice. I have a 13.5k gallon pool and I have the salt cell for a 40 k pool. Less run time and your cell will last longer. Plus, no more hauling chlorine!

    Umbrellas

Yes on aluminum. All of mine are aluminum. It took me a couple of years to figure that one out. I also replaced all my patio furniture with aluminum. Make sure your umbrella holders are also non rusting. I went to move an umbrella on my deck once and the holder snapped off at the base due to rust.
