What’s this residue on my filter cartridges?!

I did scrape it off - no fizzling or sizzling when added to muriatico acid. It did turn oddly yellow though- see pic above.. I also noticed a large amount of what may be similar matter (maybe - my guess) is also deposited on the sacrificial anode , which I believe is made of zinc: When I...

Is it safe to blow backwards through pump?

It’s way simpler than you think. All you need is this $10 piece that you attach to your vac hose coming from the cyclone and it sticks (and creates suction) in any 1-2” pipe and union. I use it to blow through the cyclone from several spots. (Learnt about it from local pool guys I watched doing...

What’s this residue on my filter cartridges?!

Hi folks - went to clean my cartridges today after closing the pool a few days ago and I noticed they are completely covered with what looks like white/gray/blueish granules - see pics. What is this stuff?!? It did not go away by hosing it down. Now the cartridges are soaking in TSP - hope...

Chlorine Level before draining pool for winter closing

Do folks really give the polyquat 24hrs of circulation before draining? I run the pump for about 30min to mix it and then get on with draining… I understand the manufacturer guidelines but any evidence that a shorter circulation window would not be effective?

Please consider adding tracking of SWG % level

LOL used the app for two years straight and never noticed.. great to know, thank you!!

Ideal vacation tool to prevent skimmer clogging

Leaves are a problem for me and whenever I'm away from home for a prolonged period of time I need to manage the risk of my skimmer basket clogging up which would make my expensive pump run dry causing very expensive damage. (No, someone coming to clean up my skimmer every other day while I'm on...

Please consider adding tracking of SWG % level

App is terrific Main gap for me is that when I log test results there is no field for SWG% As a salt water user, I know that finding the SWG chlorine production % level that yields your desired FC target is not easy The app allows you to track FC levels over time and if you could look at those...

Intellichlor not generating chlorine. Salt sensor issue?

thx for the reminder. I had forgotten about that but now I recall reading this, yes. so far my testing seems to have been accurate - and I can manage it through MA as expected - by testing before/after additions.. when you say it's not accurate above 10 FC, is that by a very large margin? with...

Intellichlor not generating chlorine. Salt sensor issue?

thx for confirming that! sounds like a good strategy indeed to keep a solid buffer! interesting you mention CYA - I've always kept it within range but for some reason this year I've been struggling with it. I kept on adding more of it and it kept on dropping. first I thought the reagent wasn't...

Intellichlor not generating chlorine. Salt sensor issue?

@Jimrahbe @an1vrsy I have to thank you both for bringing me back to reality. You were right and I was wrong - the Intellichlor works just fine after I slammed the heck of out my pool for 3 days in a row. Clearly I had a just enough invisible algae that the cell could not keep up without a clean...

Intellichlor not generating chlorine. Salt sensor issue?

Thx folks. I might be blaming the tech when the fault is me perhaps. Will slam / oclt to rule that out

Intellichlor not generating chlorine. Salt sensor issue?

I have it running on pucks now just to keep it chlorinated - will take those off and do another oclt as you suggest just in case but first one indicated no algae… Any idea what might be going on with the tech? Clearly something is wrong with the salt readings and it may or may not be a coincidence…

Intellichlor not generating chlorine. Salt sensor issue?

Hi folks - hope this finds you all well. My pool has been on autopilot for a while till last week when I realized the SWG (IC60) wasn’t producing chlorine. I’ve been getting FC readings of/near zero for a week+. Water is perfectly balanced. No CC or algae. SWG cell “looks” perfect - all green...

Is this safety cover sagging too much?

not sure what you mean - what did you notice? I'll take a look when home today..

Is this safety cover sagging too much?

there is a vinyl coated aircraft cable running alongside the permitter of the waterfall. it runs through metal loops built underneath the cover and rests on 8 removable anchors screwed into the sheer descent wall. Not really adjustable, no. I already made that cable as short/tight as I could..

Is this safety cover sagging too much?

Thank you! How do you tell the amount of compression? If a spring normally measures, say, 10”, would one that’s half compressed stretch out to 15”?! Is that would you meant? And should they be half compressed with no load?

Is this safety cover sagging too much?

Having recently closed the pool for the first time, I just noticed that with a bit of rain and leaves the cover is already sagging a bunch in the centre... see pic. to my (untrained) eye, looks like way too much for a bit of rain/leaves... considering it's supposed to withstand heavy snow. I...

Closing done.. but is my PH too low?? Pls help clarify the winter chemistry !

Quick update for posterity - should anyone else need to address a similar situation, the fix was super easy. Lifted up a corner of the cover, dumped my borax (2.6lbs in my case) into the deep end (well pre-dissolved into two 5gal buckets of water), brushed the area, put in a sump pump to...

Closing done.. but is my PH too low?? Pls help clarify the winter chemistry !

looks like to get my pool from 7.2 to at least 7.6, I'd need about 2.6 lbs of borax. not sure how many gallons of water that needs to be dissolved in (never used borax before), but I could go that way with 5gal buckets and use my submersible sump pump to circulate the water in the pool. wouldn't...

Closing done.. but is my PH too low?? Pls help clarify the winter chemistry !

it's a mesh cover. I hadn't thought of that at all. so, yes - better to put it back in the high range at 7.8 or so perhaps if what I can expect is dropping PH during the winter. would you agree?

Closing done.. but is my PH too low?? Pls help clarify the winter chemistry !

Big thx for all the advice on the forum. Closed the pool on my own and feel really good about the process! I left my PH at 7.2, as I read (at at least I think I understood) from a few posts here that over the winter with cold temperatures PH will increase, and therefore to start at lower end of...
