    TA and CH levels

After more reading, I think I’m just going to focus on moving my PH up. I have laminars, so I’ll turn them on and get my PH up closer to 7.5 or greater.

    TA and CH levels

Sorry, I didn't log the addition of CYA. I added about 5 pounds of CYA to get my CYA up from very low (barely registering so say 20-30) up to 70. jgofnj makes a point of the effect on the heater by having a low CH. I looked at my heater manual and it says minimum is 200. No worries? I also...

    TA and CH levels

Did a full set of tests today and the TA and CH were very low. The CH has always been low but I didn’t care given that I have a fiberglass pool. My TA is low now too. Last year is was around 100 but this year it’s 50. Seems like I should increase the TA but also wondering about the CH. In...

    Looking for a better brush

I can’t say how long it will last but I bought the Blue Torrent Brush and I like it a lot. It gets into all the curves in my fiberglass pool very well.

    Looking for a better brush

I bought the SweepEase August of ‘22 (end of season), used it all through 2023 and now in 2024, it shedding bristles like crazy. Maybe I should just accept that this is an annual cost that I need to incur. I did like how it pushed down on the downstroke similar to the Whale without such a...

Am I Using the FAS/DPD Correctly?

This ^^ By watching the chlorine drop, you’ll gain more confidence in your results. Then turn it back on and watch it go up. Again, by repeating the test and having it match your actions, you’ll gain the confidence/expertise that you need in order to trust the process. I would definitely...

    Robot vs manual vacuum

I have one that looks like the one above. There is a motion that helps. As mas985 says, you push it forward and then pull it straight back to "capture" the debris in the net. However, there is another motion I use to pick things up. Get near the object you're trying to pick up. Then, it's...

    CYA and Clarity

Couple questions/observations: I opened my pool and my CYA was between 30 and 40 so let’s just say 40. When I closed my pool it was closer to 70. I thought CYA didn’t go anywhere (I’ve read stories about draining a pool to get CYA down) so why did it go down over winter? I did dump a few...

    Weir door replacement.

Figured it out. The U3 lid does not belong. I have a lid that covers the hole that they use to see if there is ground water at the base of the pool. I took a look at that and guess what, that had a Waterway lid on it. That must be the one that came with the skimmer. Not that it matters but...

    Weir door replacement.

The part number for the skimmer basket is Waterway also. Maybe the lid/cover to the skimmer is the part that doesn’t belong. Either way, I appreciate your help.

    Weir door replacement.

All done. The only thing I don’t know is if the styrofoam I used will break down in the pool. The original foam was more like a pool noodle foam. The styrofoam I used is the typical ridged styrofoam they use in packing things in a box for shipping. If it breaks down, I’ll just buy a whole new...

    Weir door replacement.

Well taking a picture helped a ton. I pushed the door shut so the water would go down and I could stick my phone in the skimmer and get a picture of the back of the door. Got lucky and captured a picture with the part number staring at me. Yeah! Even better, I think the only thing I need is...

    Weir door replacement.

That’s what I don’t know how to do. Do they just pull out by pushing it to one side? I tried feeling around at the base behind it and can’t really tell. I’m going to go get as good of a picture as I can.

    Weir door replacement.

I know this might seem silly and I don’t mean it to be in any way, but how do I take a picture of the weir door - it’s kind of (mostly) underwater. Plus, from the inside, it’s in a bit of a tunnel. Not sure how to get a helpful picture out of that. I could zoom in from the front and get...

    Weir door replacement.

How do I get my weir door off so that I can fix or replace it. The styrofoam on the back keeps coming off so it’s not operating correctly when that happens. I tried to identify the skimmer using the code on the lid but it doesn’t look right. The lid is a Sta-Rite U3 skimmer 08560 but when I...

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! *PICS THREAD*

Looking much better today. I’ll keep the chlorine level up for a couple days as I get some other things taken care of. Next step is to get the SWG working. Water temp is 61 degrees so I think it’s in range to work but it says it’s low on salt. So, probably put in some salt tomorrow after I...

    Opening Steps

Interesting situation. I started the SLAM yesterday but I was too tired to vacuum the pool. I put two gallons in the pool of 12.5% with a 40 cya and it got up to 16 no problem. Water cleared up and because I had brushed, the sides looked good. Figured I'd resume the SLAM today and vacuum the...

Good point. I use a mesh safety cover. Water gets in the pool while it’s on.

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! *PICS THREAD*

It’s late if you want the water to be crystal clear when you open. It’s too early to swim, but I’ll heat up the water and we’ll be in it around mid May.

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! *PICS THREAD*

No, I don’t close early. First batch of chlorine and it’s already doing better. It will be hard to start a proper SLAM this evening, but I’ll hit it hard tomorrow and it should be fine by the end of the weekend. It may not pass the chlorine loss test but I’m sure it will look good by then.

    Opening Steps

What do I do with my pool cover. It’s a mesh safety cover and as we removed it, it got dragged through some algae. Is that an issue? Obviously it will be bone dry by the time we put it back on in the fall. Will the algae reconstitute?

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! *PICS THREAD*

Opened later than last year and had some warm weather in March. First time the pool has been this green since the first fill a few years ago. Oh well. Shouldn't be too bad to get it in shape.

    Opening Steps

Is there a set set of steps for opening a pool? In my case a green pool? For example: Drain water to proper level Start filter Test water Slam Vacuum/brush I don’t want to make extra work for myself or use unnecessary amounts of chemicals by doing things in the wrong order. My nature is...

    Dig day july 20th

If your gas supply isn’t at its limit getting a bigger meter isn’t going to do anything. You should evaluate your supply vs max use and see if it would matter.
