Sounds like a suction side air leak - not sure why it's intermittent though. Maybe your skimmer is just sucking air sometimes? Do you get a little vortex inside your skimmer at any time?
Check out Bifen XTS. Sold at Walmart and Amazon. Someone recommended it a while back for ants and other yard pests. I sprayed it on my yard 3 months ago and haven’t had ants, mosquitoes, gnats, or anything all summer.
It's really up to you - there's no hard and fast rules for pump run time unless you have an SWG, and even then it's pretty flexible. I only have a single speed pump but run it a couple hours in the morning to skim off any debris in case someone wants to swim while I'm at work. Then I run it...
They actually recommend you drill a hole in the pump head? That sounds kinda crazy. My pump (not a stenner) has a sensor so that if it detects liquid inside the chamber it shuts the pump off. Works great - found out when I first used the wrong type of pump tube that didn't hold up to...
Ok. Not sure what that test is capable of but just remember you need to be able to measure high FC levels. With your current CYA you should never let it drop below 8 and that's difficult to do with pucks. Just using liquid chlorine now? Have you considered a partial water replacement? If...
You need to add 2 gallons to reach FC of 10. Your min FC is 8 based on FC/CYA Chart. Start reading through Pool School - link at top of page. Sounds like your water isn't too bad looking so with some water replacement and a switch to liquid chlorine or bleach, you should be able to manage just...
Most likely dead algae. You don't have nearly enough FC in your pool for your stabilizer (CYA) level. Let me guess - your using pucks and add shock once a week?
Instead of the two way valves you could use a 3-way prior to your pump to connect both the skimmer and main drain. Makes balancing flow between the two easier...
Same thing happens to my pool right after I clean the filter. With max water flow it creates a vortex at the return - seems to be worse if the eyeball is pointed down. After I clean the filter I adjust the jet up slightly so it's just level with the surface and that helps. After a few days...
If you're going to keep your CYA where it's at then all you have to do is bring your pH up a bit and your fine to swim. Of course with that CYA you'll need to maintain very high FC levels: target 19-20 ppm and never let it go below 14. If you get algae and need to slam it will take a lot of...
Your chlorine level is too low for your CYA level. Your cloudiness is most likely the start of an Algae bloom. The pool store didn't do you any favors either - you're pH and alkalinity are fine. The folks on this forum will help you but you should start reading Pool School asap and stay away...
Agree with above. I would try to repair. Not terribly difficult but the longer it continues to leak the higher the chance that it will rust out your motor. If the motor starts getting louder it may indicate that the bearings are already going bad...
My first priority would be to get rid of that HUGE spider web! Wow that would freak me out  I'd spray the entire area with bug killer and round up so you can see what all you got. Good luck with the SWG and you may want to look into liquid chlorine injection as well.
If you decide to go with the Stenner you could install the injector into the elbow that goes to your pool return. Need to drill and tap but it's not difficult.
Hmmm... I was thinking it would be more accurate for the water sample. Mixing water from skimmer and main drain instead of random location in the pool... Anyway I would compare readings from both if I go that route.
Is it critical to be that precise with pH? I'm fine with mine anywhere between 7.2 and 7.8. Would never adjust unless it was below/above that. I usually just under dose a bit from what pool math says it works out great! I would say that last test was a 7.8 and wouldn't mess with it. Or if...
All very good points! Thanks for your feedback. I think I will put one between my pump and filter. It would help prime when needed and I like the idea of pulling my water sample here.
Thanks everyone!
I've noticed several pictures on this site (and once on Pool Kings) of pool plumbing that has PVC T's installed as a 90 degree turn and the other end is plugged but has a spigot attached. It seems most common right after the pump discharge but I've seen them in other locations as well. What is...
If it is baking soda you are seeing you just need to keep brushing until it dissolves. There is a better way: stop listening to the pool store and stop "tossing" stuff into your pool. My best guess is your actually seeing dead algae settling on the bottom of the pool.
Don't worry about your alkalinity right now; it has nothing to do with why your pool is green. Plus your pH is fine. Your pool is most likely green because the free chlorine isn't high enough to kill all the algae based on your CYA level... Follow the advice of the two fine gents who posted...
Most of the smaller pool stores around here sell 12.5% liquid chlorine - not the big stores like Leslies though. Might want to search your area for smaller pool shops. I've been getting a case (4 gallons) of 12.5% for $13.50 for the last few years at two different stores. I never buy anything...
Getting your CYA up should help. You also might want to consider testing your FC after the Stenner runs to see if your actually hitting your target. Since you typically run it at night you might have to change the schedule to make this more convenient. One of the advantages of the stenner is...
