Is it possible to get just the control boards? V-Green 270/Century variable speed motor

Any update on this water incursion issue? My neighbor called me last week to look at her pump (same pump as the OP) that I installed for her 4+ years ago (now out of warranty). Top cover for the electric connections was corroded and the paint bubbled off. Opened the cover and very wet...

    1 or 2 skimmers?

Good to know. :) There's some good advice above by Newdude, ajw22, and Richard320. The key is having surface FLOW that encourages debris towards/into the skimmer. Another example and contrast to illustrate this point -- I have a 20x40 rectangle with slightly cut corners where my skimmers (2)...

    1 or 2 skimmers?

OP - saying that your pool is 16x30 hardly gives enough info. What is pool shape/depth? Main drain? # of returns? No one can say their pool is 'similar' to yours based on one attribute. Example -- a 16x30 free-form will have LOTS less surface area to skim than a 16x30 rectangular pool, but have...

Pool builder is recommending SuperPump 1.5hp (not VSP)

Tell your wife to relax. What she should really be stressed out about is the extra electric usage and cost that will be incurred by using that single speed pump.:( For reference, 8 seasons ago, I replaced a 2HP single speed pump with a VS 3HP pump. I do not have a heater, but I do have a SWC...

    Pool Lights - Dilemma

Yep -- that's the bottom-line. 1" right out of the wall is the problem. That white ring in the photo won't budge....it looks like it was glued in-place.

    Pool Lights - Dilemma

Thank you for the suggestion. I checked the link you provided -- at least Jandy's site says 'uses a longer niche conduit'. SR Smith does not say that. Just says 'uses standard 1.5" wall fitting'. A wall fitting is just that -- a wall fitting. Their lights need a standard 1.5" wall fitting AND...

    Pool Lights - Dilemma

Are you using 3 micro LEDs from SR Smith or some other brand/model? How happy are you with their brightness? LED pool lights don't show how many lumens they put out...but seeing photos online of the micro LEDs, I am not too impressed by the light output. BTW, I have 3 light fittings in pool...

    Pool Lights - Dilemma

Late last summer my 22-season old Fiberstars illuminator (FS-4) died. After 22 seasons, it didn't owe us anything. So the plan was to replace the whole fiber system with LED lighting. Lots of positive comments here and elsewhere about the SR Smith Treo lighting system as a perfect/direct...

Any ideas -- How to remove a jammed SP1434D Spa Jet Retainer Ring?

Getting ready to close down the pool for the season. My spa seat has four SP1434 hydro spa jets. Three came out without a problem, but the 4th is jammed solid. The 4 tabs/ears on the retainer ring have broken off. I've tried using needle-nose pliers into the small holes in the retainer...

    Jacuzzi Pumps

I am not 100% certain, but I believe the current 'Jacuzzi brand' pumps are not the same Jacuzzi pumps from several years ago. The Jacuzzi brand was sold off to another company around 2005. I would not be surprised if today's pumps are of lower quality. The original Jacuzzi Brothers products...

I broke what I think is the bond wire

I couldn't open the link in BostonSkimmer's previous posting. Here is a page from an electrical supplier showing several of the connectors : http://www.elecdirect.com/catalog/a6e77b09-b40a-4072-b284-58d0e60cfa85.aspx You want a split-bolt that can handle 3 wires of sufficient gauge (your wire...

I broke what I think is the bond wire

Why not get a split-bolt connector and a foot or two of the same gauge (thickness) bare copper wire at your local hardware store (or Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc) and do a pig tail to the motor connector? A lot cleaner, meets code, and you don't have to worry about the wire falling off this...

help with dual speed pump and pressure

Yes, assuming 'one is farther' by more than a foot or two. If the skimmers are plumbed on separate 'home runs' back to your equipment pad, you can adjust the valves so that the flow is somewhat reduced on the closest skimmer so that its to equal the wide-open farthest skimmer.

Get filter basket out of jacuzzi magnum force

Don't be afraid to give the plastic basket a good tug. If its caked with pool Crud, it might take a little extra pull. Sometimes I'd feel resistance (almost like suction holding it in place). Don't pull by the flapper or it will tear off from its attached 'ears'.

To switch or not to switch. Cartridge vs Sand debate

I've had a 27" sand filter for 16 seasons but switched to a cartridge filter (Hayward SwimClear 4030) this season. Won't ever go back to sand. Installed the new cartridge filter at the start of season -- same time that I replaced old pump with an Intelliflo and upgraded my pad plumbing to 2"...

Get filter basket out of jacuzzi magnum force

I had a Jacuzzi Magnum pump for 16 seasons before this year. Not sure I really understand your question since removing the filter basket is rather straight forward -- turn off the pump,un-screw the cover for the filter basket, then pick-up the filter basket. Are you not able to un-screw the...

Tracking down my high electricity usage with a new pool

Lots of variable at work here......more likely its not related to the pump/pool....your calcs look fine on a per day basis. But adding them all up for the month, your pool & spa usage alone will cost almost $50 ($47.45 to be exact) and consumes a little over 409Kwh. So, another 2100 Kwh for the...

How smooth should vermiculite bottom be on newer install

The pool light's angle of incidence is quite low...so as Bama Rambler said, all imperfections will be noticed....nothing unusual about it....unless you have huge gaps, etc in the bottom. My pool is in its 17th season....only last week did I see a small circular depression on the down-slope of...

4th year with the aquarite SWG

"4th year" -- isn't enough info to describe the actual age of the cell which may be at the end of its useful life and needs replacing. Where are you located and what constitutes a 'year'/pool season? If you have a 3-month pool season and run the SWG at a lower output level, your cell may last...

    Crack in pool filter

You're getting 'up there' with that PSI...but I don't see how you can get pressure that high from the fireworks? If the skimmer and/or pump baskets were loaded with debris, then that would reduce flow and lessen pressure on the filter. So, me thinks you've been needing to backwash.

    Crack in pool filter

My previous Jacuzzi sand filter developed a crack about 4 seasons ago & I'd repair it each spring (inside & out) using a marine epoxy. It would usually last for 2-3 months, then start leaking and I'd re-seal it. I knew it needed to be replaced and I was buying time until I could replace all my...

    Whisperflow vs Intelliflow port dimensions

Makes you wonder what rocket scientist put the conduit connector where its impossible (or almost impossible) to use a 90 degree connector due to the pump fan housing. I removed the 3 screws on the fan housing and was able to use a 90-degree connector -- but i had to spin the fan by hand...

    Pumping Station Labeling

Got it! The label on the left inlet looked like it said 'never lube' and that's what raised my curiosity. Thanks Dave!

    Pumping Station Labeling

Why would a 'never lube' valve need a grease cap? Just curious.

    Possible clogged skimmer lines

Another option if you have access to the suction line at the pump inlet -- use a shop vac to flow out the skimmer. When I close my pool for winterization each year, I blow water out of all suction lines & returns using a shop vac. Very effective. Of course, you will have to be able to 'cap off'...

Just installed a Hayward Ecostar, Quick question...

Ken, Congratulations! I just went through a similar effort, but I did it all myself -- re-located electrical panels/timer about 8 feet, added a junction box for an extended branch circuit, expanded equipment pad, upgraded pad plumbing to 2" pipes, installed new Intelliflo pump, installed new...
