What did you do to your pool today?

End of October through end of April is wonderful in Florida, specifically south Florida. Every other time is subjective.

Review of my plan? New to maintaining my own pool...black algae and CYA way off

At Part 2 you need your FC to be 9 like Allen said. Also as you are draining get in your pool and clean the black algae with a weak pressure washer. You have to break apart the black algae in order to kill it.

    Tracking my incredible shrinking CYA

Ok, logged it in PoolMath and here. Adding 2.5lbs of CYA right now. Should take my CYA to between 80-90 which should be ideal for this time of year. Pool is getting full sun all day, and current pool temp is 88.5 degrees. Probably will hit 90 today. Also no measurable rain in the several weeks.

    Aiper Scuba S1 Review

The debris basket is pretty good. I have also stuffed some Polyfill in the basket occasionally to get some superfine filtration. Just used it on a neighbors pool to suck up dead algae on the SLAM I am doing for him.

    Tracking my incredible shrinking CYA

Crud, I cant remember if I added any CYA or not. Going to start logging additions in pool math from now on. Anyway no rain, and CH and Salt is rising so no leak. CYA is 70

    CYA Disappearing

Start measuring your salt and CH more regularly with your test kit. Without rain, any of those dropping are indicators of a pool leak. Get a baseline now and start (the increase CH on a new pool is probably very normal). It’s hot but not crazy humid yet so you should be losing between 1” to 2” a...

Keeping pH in check during week long vacation

Relax put some tabs in a floater and go on vacation. It’s a pool, not rocket surgery. Watch out for the Bison and bears. Remember priorities

New pool cleaner for Katodude to review

I’m sorry at the price it should handle an irregular shaped pool.

Keeping pH in check during week long vacation

I would throw the floater in with the pucks and leave the SWG on. What’s the worst that happens, you FC is a little hot. It’s like a belt and suspenders. Something always goes wrong when I leave the house.

New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

You will be boring your grandkids about how when I had a pool I brushed by hand, and vacuumed and had to use a net skim leaves in the snow uphill in both directions. That fence post has grown mighty long.

Is this algae? I think yes!

I am not a fan of the wire brush, but if it works it works. You are in Orlando, pool should be warm enough to get into. Grab a mask and snorkel and get down there and pick at it. See if it flakes up.

Is this algae? I think yes!

Those spots look like black algae. See if you can use something like a wooden bbq skewer to pick at the spots and see if they come off.

    Aiper Scuba S1 Review

Pool was definitely clearer after running the S1 with Polyfill. Hard to quantify if just a regular cleaning would have done it. But I really think it captured more fine debris that the filter might have missed.

    Aiper Scuba S1 Review

The Polyfill seems to make a difference. You can see here the tracks where the S1 has gone vs where it has not yet. Be interested to see what is in the filter when I pull it out.

    Aiper Scuba S1 Review

Trying an experiment. A neighbors pool got algae (pool service, will rant in another thread). Anyway been cleaning it up for him, and it’s mainly just cloudy now from the dead algae (and he has a crazy small filter). So I stuffed some Polyfill in the S1 and threw it in there. Let’s see if that...

    Tracking my incredible shrinking CYA

Do we have an idea of how much? My pool hit 90F yesterday, and will probably float between 85 and 90 for quite a while.

    Tracking my incredible shrinking CYA

CYA was maybe a tad under 70, but let’s call it 70 for now. No rain since the last test. So adding some CYA now as we are getting full sun. I would like to have it around 80-90 and form a new baseline. Will measure again on Sunday or Monday and we will start tracking from there. As a side...

    Aiper Scuba S1 Review

I run my S1 pretty much every day. It easy. I drop it in the pool and then I fish it out with a dedicated pole and hook. I plug it in to charge. I clean the filter every few days to a week, depending on how dirty the pool is. The unit is cheap enough what I treat it like a tool and not part of...

    Winter heater suggestion for Virginia

Thats a big assumption. The folks here are telling that it is not. The acidity of the tabs are destroying your heaters.

Ariel getting stuck on Warrior SE cable

Nope, it’s a known problem. People have tried weighing down the cords, but it does not work. Feel free to keep trying. However, the general consensus is you can run a robot skimmer or a corded robot. Just not both at the same time.

    Aiper Scuba S1 Review

I have their old vacuum and I dont like it. It does not roll smoothly on a pebble surface and it makes it very difficult to use. Dont know if the new model fixes that issue. If you buy it start a new thread and report back.
