Do the New Hayward SWG's Require an OEM Cell?

Wow, so folks are locked in to their $1,000 cells now? Crazy.

Do the New Hayward SWG's Require an OEM Cell?

It was mentioned to me that the new Hayward SWG's have some sort of "cell verification system" now built in, and only OEM cells can be used. True or false?

    pH and Alkalinity

Perfect....Thank you....Reading of the ill effects of low pH had me a bit concerned.

    pH and Alkalinity

For the last 45 days, I have reduced my pH and Alkalinity to 7.5 and 60 respectively. I know this is at the low end of the range, but I made this change because my salt cell was fouling with deposits much faster than normal. A byproduct of this change is that my pool water clarity has improved...

Has Anyone Tried an Electronic Salt Testing Device?

Saw this on Amazon Amazon.com and was wondering if it's worth investing in one. I use the test strips, but at $10+/bottle, it adds up. Seems to get good ratings.

Here We Go Again - Perfect Chemical Balance + Algae

Quick update on the situation. I brushed the entire pool this past weekend with the intention of going through the SLAM process starting this past Monday, but of course life got in the way and I was unable to perform the procedure. Oddly enough, the algae has not reappeared. After the...

Here We Go Again - Perfect Chemical Balance + Algae

No cover..... Checked it right before we left on vacation. Suncoast "All in One Algaecide." I know Polyquat is the recommended product, but I had the Suncoast on hand. I just used it has an extra precaution.

Here We Go Again - Perfect Chemical Balance + Algae

Thanks for the input/advice gang. I suppose it's possible the power went out, but the pool was checked on Wednesday and there was no algae present, so this occurred between Wednesday afternoon and Friday evening. I don't recall the FC level ever dropping below 6, but I guess it's possible it...

Here We Go Again - Perfect Chemical Balance + Algae

Thanks gang....If an FC of 12 isn't sufficient, how high must the FC be in my case? Before I left on vacation, I made sure FC was good (10 at the time). I don't see how it could have dropped to a level that would promote algae growth, and then return to a level of 12 by the time I returned 5...

Here We Go Again - Perfect Chemical Balance + Algae

I tested the water this morning, and the FC is still at 12. It actually sounds like I need to back off on the salt system run-time a bit. It's running for around 16 hours/day at 100%. The pump/filter is running 18 hours/day. I can't imagine I'm not getting enough turn-over. You'd think an FC...

Here We Go Again - Perfect Chemical Balance + Algae

Thanks guys...It's on the walls around the entire pool, more near the pool floor in some areas. It's absolutely green algae. I'll do an overnight loss test, but I can't see any possible way it would drop from an FC of 12, to a level low enough to cause algae growth. My pool cleaner runs 18...

Here We Go Again - Perfect Chemical Balance + Algae

Well, the story repeats itself. I returned from a 5 day vacation to find algae in the pool. I immediately thought the chlorine must be low. To my surprise, here are the readings using my test kit: FC 12 CC 0 PH 7.5 TA 90 CH 400 CYA 70 NA 3800 CSI -.11 I even put half a bottle of algaecide...

    New Salt Cell Fouling Quickly

Well, not what I wanted to hear, given that I just spent $100 on a box of the Cal-Hypo! :) Is there a salt-system-friendly granular shock I could use that won't cause the issue?

    New Salt Cell Fouling Quickly

Morning...I went ahead and ran a fresh set of tests just now, and here are the results: FC 4.5 CC 0 (although I'll get a small patch of green algae on a wall still) CH 375 TA 90 CYA 70 PH 7.8 Regarding the cell, the acid bath did dissolve most of it, but there were still thick flakes in...

    New Salt Cell Fouling Quickly

I do not, I use the Aquachek strips. The results from the strips are very, very close to what the pool store results indicate.

    New Salt Cell Fouling Quickly

Those came from the pool store that I went to. My test results the same morning using my Taylor test kit were TA 80, CH 240, and CYA 70, so somewhat close.

    New Salt Cell Fouling Quickly

No noticeable flakes coming from the returns. I'll see about testing the fill water tonight. Thanks!

    New Salt Cell Fouling Quickly

I just installed a new salt cell 30 days ago, and yesterday, my control unit was lit up like a Christmas tree. "sLO" on the LED, and the "Check Salt" and "Check Cell" lights were on. Cell was reading "0000" salt level. I pulled and inspected the cell, and it was pretty fouled with calcium...

    Alarmingly High Copper Reading

Appreciate the education! I haven't used an algaecide in the pool in years, nor do I have an ionizer or pool heater. It's a simple set-up; pump, cartridge filter and salt system.

    Alarmingly High Copper Reading

Thanks for the input everyone! I'm beginning to wonder myself. I definitely have some large, light brown patches on the walls of my pool, which I assume are iron stains. I was planning on doing a stain regimen this coming winter when the water is cooler. I'll get the water tested at another...

Noted....Any recommendations on a sequestering/chelating agent to remove the copper if needed?

    Alarmingly High Copper Reading

Yes, I'll see if I can pull the cartridge this evening. It's in need of a cleaning, so I might as well do it sooner than later. Another thing I noticed is that the pool water has become cloudy, which seems to be a symptom of high copper.

    Alarmingly High Copper Reading

Thanks....Is there a preferred sequestering agent for copper should I need it?

    Alarmingly High Copper Reading

Greetings! I do my own testing with a Taylor test kit, and on occasion, have my local Leslie's perform a test to validate my findings. I did so this morning, and their results were pretty much identical to mine. One thing that came as a surprise was a copper reading of 2.4, which seems...

    Aftermarket Salt Cells

Calimar told me it was 2.1# per day. The same company also makes the Pureline and Circupool cells, along with the others and likely more than I mentioned earlier.

Anyone Tried a Smart Monitoring System?

Has anyone tried one of those smart monitoring systems that continuously tests for FC and PH, giving you the reading on a phone app? Reliable? Worth the investment?

    Aftermarket Salt Cells

I have a Calimar T-15 cell being delivered today. I think it was $349. It's only the 1-year version, but I believe it's the same cell as the 2yr and 3yr versions. The only difference is you're paying more for a longer warranty period. If the cell lasts at least 1 year, I'm pretty sure it...
