Thanks gang....If an FC of 12 isn't sufficient, how high must the FC be in my case? Before I left on vacation, I made sure FC was good (10 at the time). I don't see how it could have dropped to a level that would promote algae growth, and then return to a level of 12 by the time I returned 5...

I do not, I use the Aquachek strips. The results from the strips are very, very close to what the pool store results indicate.

Those came from the pool store that I went to. My test results the same morning using my Taylor test kit were TA 80, CH 240, and CYA 70, so somewhat close.

I've had the salt system in place for 8-9 years now.

Yes, I'll see if I can pull the cartridge this evening. It's in need of a cleaning, so I might as well do it sooner than later. Another thing I noticed is that the pool water has become cloudy, which seems to be a symptom of high copper.
