Pump pressure gage leaking.

We started trying to care for our pool ourselves this month. Pressure gage was broken. So we changed it. The old gage wasnt tight in, so when we put on new one and it wouldn’t be tight we didnt think much of it. We used teflon tape but it just kept turning. We statted the filter and there some leaking around the gage. It wasn’t leaking before. It almost seems the thread on the filter part is gone. How do I fix that??

Welcome to TFP.
Since this is a pressure vessel and that threaded part is most likely fiberglass - if teflon tape will not seal it then it is best to purchase a new top half for the filter.

We might need @1poolman1 for this one. But just looking at the pics, those don't look like tapered threads to me, and there appears to be a ridge at the bottom of the female receptacle. That indicates that there should be an o-ring in the mix, not teflon tape.

Or it's possible the female threads are tapered, but the gauge you bought doesn't have tapered threads, which would definitely result in a leak. Just a matter of the wrong part.

What say you, poolman?

Looks like there is still a portion of the old valve in the top. Also, the assembly seals with an O ring and the new one is not threaded in properly. Better picture of the O ring on this brass assembly:

Yah, his threads look like these. They're not tapered, they need an o-ring. I thought I could make out an o-ring at the top of his threads. So it's not a matter of teflon tape or pipe dope (neither of which is needed), he needs to get the existing o-ring on his new gauge to seal up to the fiberglass housing properly (he would need to lubricate that o-ring properly).

It's hard to tell from the pic, but the threads look too long to do that. So maybe something is in the housing that is keeping the gauge from going in far enough? Or he's got the wrong gauge.
