Looking for a Jandy WFTR160 replacement

My pump housing for a Jandy WFTR 160 cracked over the winter. Drain plugs were out, but it may have just been age because it was at the seam along the top. Looks like they are discontinued. What is a direct replacement for this pump? We are using it for a waterfall and slide simultaneously, so I can't really downsize.

Thanks in advance,

Josh

Welcome to TFP.

The WFTR160 is not discontinued. Jandy does not allow the pump to be sold online. You have to go through a Jandy dealer.

Pentair has the AFP-150 pump...

Josh,

Welcome aboard TFP! This is a great place to get unbiased advice. We don't sell anything so our advice is never conflicted like can happen at pool stores. As mentioned above several of the 3 major pool equipment suppliers have taken positions to protect their business from extreme competition that happens on the internet and big box stores. Jandy seems to have taken the strongest position. If you're planning to have this pump replaced commercially by a dealer this doesn't matter much to you. However, if you're doing it DIY this can matter a lot since you can save some big $ for a relatively easy replacement so long as you are comfortable with the 240 vac power and some minor plumbing. As Allen pointed out above there are a LOT of other brands, just search for pumps with similar specs. Another option is to call one of the major suppliers like inyopools.com and they will help you pick out the right replacement

I hope this is helpful and whether you decide to do it yourself or not, please feel free to ask any additional questions and keep us posted on the job.

Chris

Although the WFTR160 is classified as a waterfall pump, I don't think it is exempt from the new DOE regulations. This shows it as non-compliant so probably no longer manufactured but you might find old stock somewhere:

Waterfall pumps must be less than 30' of head which this pump is not. Plus it is a full speed pump while the Pentair waterfall pump is a half speed (thus lower head).

But to find a suitable replacement, I need to know more about the plumbing:

Picture of the pump with the attached plumbing would help

Pipe size and length from pump to features

Waterfall height and width and flow rate requirements if known
Slide height and flow rate requirement

You may be forced to go with a VS pump unless you can find old stock.
