Looks like I need to address this I have a concrete pool no rebar that I can find in concrete deck - metal ladder and rail at steps I’m thinking I could cutout a channel of the deck but how do I attach to the metal ladder and rail aren’t the anchors aluminum wouldn’t the copper wire go right into the chrome ladder / railing? Also do I have to go completely around the pool or can I just connect back to the pump & heater?

My pool deck has no rebar either. Was your pool ever bonded? Mine has a bonding wire under the deck that goes all the way around the pool. All metal is connected to this bonding ring using a mechanical connection. All metal and all equipment should be bonded.

You are in Canada. The electrical bonding codes and specific pool requirements are different then US NEC. You will get many comments that may not be applicable to you in Canada.

Why do you think you need to do something with the bonding of your pool?

I guess all the information about bonding kind of scared me. I don’t have wire around the pool as far as I can tell. A couple years ago I had a heater installed and a pump replaced and then I saw stuff about bonding and got concerned.

Do you have a bonding wire connecting your pool equipment?

How old is your pool?

What type of lights do you have? In older pools with metal light housings the light niche and conduit can be used to bond to the water.

What the difference in Canada?
I don't know all the differences but I believe bond wire in the US NEC is required to be #8 AWG copper and I think Canada is #6 solid bare copper wire. There have been other differences mentioned over the years.

Okay so I have to do this as a retrofit with a concrete deck any suggestions on how to do this

Start by bonding together all your pool equipment that requires bonding.

Then figure out where you can create a water bond.

Bonding to a concrete deck is difficult if it does not have rebar in it.

When I had corroded ladder and handrail anchors replaced on my previous pool, the installer failed to bond the new anchors. Instead of cutting the concrete to add a bonding wire, the metal ladder and handrail was replaced with Saftron ones.
