Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

The pool has now passed all 3 slam criteria and the chlorine is back to normal levels. The water is perfectly balanced and crystal clear. I swam to the bottom of the deep end to inspect the drain, no sign of any mustard algae there, so I think I’m good to go. The moral of the story for me was...

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

Ok, I think I found where the MA was hiding. I always remove the light and scrub the inside of the niche, but just to be extra thorough, I thought I’d try to clean the inside of the conduit that carries the wiring for the light. I used an air compressor to blow air from the electrical junction...

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

The poofing never fully goes away, it’s just less with more chlorine. It will pass OCLT, then brush right after test at sunrise, and “poof”.

@Texas Splash I’ll take a look at the drain, that’s a good thought.

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

I don’t take it as an insult at all! I just wanna get this taken care of. At chlorine levels under 10ppm, the water starts to look a little cloudy and dull, the walls and floor look dirty, when I brush any surface a brown/yellowish cloud appears, almost like sand, but it’s not sand. When at...

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

Yes, I know MA level should be for 24 hours, but after going through this process 3 times and the mustard algae still returning, I went twice as long this last time in case that helped. My sand filter is 2 years old, I will be replacing the sand this week while filing the pool. I should also...

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

Yes, the pool is surrounded by acres of Forrest. When I scrub the walls (not floor), clouds of yellow / brown material bloom the the water, and if the chlorine is at non slam levels the water gets murky and dark cloudy, it doesn’t seem to be only pollen from what I understand. The weird thing...

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

Well it's filling up now, so I won't test and balance until it's filled back up. Here is a current picture of it filling back up. But before draining I was at: FC: 26ppm (4 sunny days drifting back down from a mustard algae level of 33ppm) PH: 7.4 TA: 70 CYA: 55 TEMP: 75 F SALT: 3550 CH: 67...

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

I posted about this issue a few weeks ago, but here's a quick recap. I'm dealing with a mustard algae problem that I can't seem to solve. Last month, I SLAM'd the pool for 2 weeks until it passed the Overnight Chlorine test, then brought the chlorine up to Mustard Algae levels for 48 hours. I...

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

Almost half of the summer in 2023 was spent with chlorine levels too high to even use the pool while trying to continue to get rid of the mustard algae. I'm trying to avoid that this year.

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

I would SLAM by maintaining FC of 24ppm (CYA = 60), brushing every surface 2x daily and would maintain 35ppm until it passed the overnight test (no change from sunset to sunrise in FC levels), then would raise it to Mustard Algae shock level, in my case 35ppm. And yes, I'm aware that I'd be...

Mustard Algae keeps coming back - then Bromide mistake

First off, I want to say this site has been a godsend. I've been using what I've learned here for the last 5 years, and my pool has been perfect with minimal effort and expenses. (I've only had to step foot in a pool store once to buy a fitting for my pump.) Last summer, I developed a mustard...

Pool overflowed from heavy rain and water got behind the liner

My wife and I were out of town this weekend and it rained 7 inches in one day while we were gone. By the time I had a neighbor come drain off the extra water it was too late, the water had already risen above the liner. Now there are wrinkles and clearly there is some water behind the liner...

Additional pool pump? Not sure what this is for.

First off I wan to say thank you to you all, this is my first year owning a pool and this site has been a lifesaver! Ok so we're about to close the pool for the winter, I think I understand everything I need to do, but I do have a question... In addition to my main pump there seems to be an...
